Brien McMahon High School has named A.J. Albano as head coach of its football team, Athletic Director Joe Madaffari announced Tuesday morning.

Albano is a lifelong Norwalk resident who played football at McMahon from 1997-2000. He's been an assistant coach under Rob Trifone at Darien for the past six years, including the last three as defensive coordinator. Albano also played under Trifone, who went 123-61-2 in 18 seasons as head coach of the Senators.

Albano, also the head coach of the Greenwich High School wrestling team for the past three years and a middle school teacher in Darien, takes over a team that went 3-7 in 2009.

McMahon went 21-30 overall over the past six seasons under former head coach Joe SantaLucia, who was let go at the end of last season. That included just one winning season (6-4) in 2006.

Albano was scheduled to be announced as head coach Tuesday afternoon at McMahon.
