Brien McMahon wins Overtime Team of the Week Award

Posted Thursday, November 04, 2010 by Rick Blosio
When he learned his school’s football team was a finalist for the Overtime Team of the Week award, Brien McMahon athletic director Joe Madaffari called Sunday morning, jokingly wanting to know if the Senator players could get two shirts apiece if they received 3,000 votes.

The Senators did not reach that lofty goal, but a strong showing at the polls made them the unanimous choice as this week’s winner of the award, which is sponsored by BlueStreak Sports Training, Garden Catering and The Stamford Advocate.

The Senators will receive a plaque and 60 T-shirts with their team helmet and lettering in school colors.

McMahon received 1,228 votes, or 59 percent of the 2,090 that were cast. Bridgeport Central was next with 732 votes, followed by New Canaan with 130.

McMahon was the unanimous choice of the selection committee, which consists of Sean Patrick Bowley, the online sports producer for Hearst Connecticut Newspapers; Pat Pickens, the sports editor of the Fairfield Citizen-News; and Tim Parry, who runs the FCIAC Football Blog. That accounts for the other 50 percent.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote.
