Repeat! Brien McMahon Wins Overtime Team Of The Week Award

Posted Wednesday, November 10, 2010 by Dave Ruden

It took a tiebreaker, but the Brien McMahon football team has become the first repeat winner of the Overtime Team of the Week award, capturing the prize for the second straight week.

The award is sponsored by BlueStreak Sports Training, Garden Catering and The Stamford Advocate. The Senators will receive a plaque and 60 T-shirts with their team helmet and lettering in school colors.

McMahon decisively won the voting portion, which counts for 50 percent, with 1,206 of the 2,206 votes cast, or 50 percent. Staples was second with 809, followed by New Canaan with 191.

New Canaan was the unanimous choice of our selection committee, which consists of Sean Patrick Bowley, the online sports producer for Hearst Connecticut Newspapers; Pat Pickens, the sports editor of the Fairfield Citizen-News; and Tim Parry, who runs the FCIAC Football Blog. That accounts for the other 50 percent.

While the inclination was to select the Rams after they jumped out to a 42-7 halftime lead over Greenwich last week, the disparity in the voting led us to break the tie in the Senators’ favor.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote.
